Okay so the second day shadowing was super cool and super boring. Let's start earlier that day. So like I emailed them a day or two in advanced to tell them that I would be shadowing wednesday afternoon and they never replied so I was like, "Okay???????" However, I went anyways because I thought maybe they just don't like replying to emails I don't know. So I showed up and if they said that they weren't ready for me then I would have to wait and hour or two in my aunt's car (she drove me there on her way to a meeting) for her meeting. Turns out they weren't expecting me but it was fine and they still let me shadow. What I found out is vet work entails lots of standing for hours. I was not used to that and was too polite and nervous to ask for a chair to sit after an hour of standing so every appointment I went into I crouched or stole a chair if there was only one person in the room. Most people were okay with me coming in and shadowing and lots of them asked questions which was nice. Anyways, lets get onto what I learned. I always thought that there was a break between appointments an the vet or doctor would take their sweet time before coming to you but it turns out a vet does a bunch of computer stuff between each appointment. So it goes appointment to computer to instantly another appointment. So that was interesting. There was this cat that had something wrong with the skin on the bottom of their paws and it was interesting to see how Lauren (the person I shadowed) brought out this book that looked like a textbook you'd find at school to try and find what it could be. She compared the photos of an infection to a burn and used the references to come to a better understanding of what might be wrong with the cat. I always thought everything was in their heads and they just knew from years of studying. So when Lauren had to do things where I couldn't come, I looked through the book. It was a book on dermatology so most of what was happening was bearable to look at or very interesting but there was this one picture that showed up multiple times in the book that will be forever etched into my mind. It's this circle ulcer looking hole in a dog filled to the brim with maggots like sardines. It made my skin so itchy. The whole visit was super cool but maybe next time I'll shadow less hours. Three hours got tiring after awhile.

First day went pretty dandy. We first went to Onion River Animal Hospital but turns out Kim didn't know they moved to a new location so we were like 10 minutes late which was fine. The lady didn't care. Anyways, so we just sat there and she told us all about shadowing. She explained what clothing would be appropriate for shadowing as well. Then she took us on a tour of the hospital. I had only been in the dog rooms so seeing the cat rooms was really cool. They have little hiding holes for the cats and ramps on the walls to climb on. She brought us to the back and showed us all the equipment and where the animals sleep over night. We saw this German shepherd puppy and it was so cute. It started gnawing on my fingers and the vet was explaining stuff but I was so distracted by the puppy. She gave us some dates that would work for shadowing and then we left. This is when we decided to get some coffee since we were both yawning and tired. So I got almost two cups of black coffee with a little milk. Once we got to bear swamp I was really nervous and I drank it very quickly. So I got caffeinated very quickly.
